Anat Geiger talks through the two main physical reasons you might not be able to do certain yoga poses in the traditional alignment. Tension and Compression.
Tension is a physical restriction which could be tightness in your muscles and fascia. This is something that can be worked on to a certain extent through practice.
Compression is where two parts of the body are meeting each other – bone meeting bone. Compression means that you have reached the end range of movement possible for your bone structure.
So then we look at how to practice yoga poses in a way that works best for our own unique body and bone structure, taking into consideration both what we can change through practice (tension) and what we can’t (compression).
Learn how to put this in practice with Esther Ekhart, Anat Geiger and Marcel van de Vis Heil in our Functional Yoga Program on EkhartYoga.com – starts February 17th.
